Terms of Service
These terms are the agreement between you and PaintedApp, LLC, which runs Painted Sound. Buying from us, or using the site, means you accept them. If you don't, please don't order.

In your browser: the sound is decoded and measured, and never leaves your device. On our server, only at checkout: its 2,000 peaks, its length and your words, to draw the print.
What you are buying
A Painted Sound print is the waveform of a sound you bring: its amplitude over time, measured in your browser from your own file or recording, drawn in the form, colours and words you choose, and printed on the paper or canvas you choose, or sent to you as a Digital File. The print shows how loud the sound was, moment by moment, with a ruler of its timecode. It doesn't contain the sound and can't be played back.
Your print is computed from the sound, not made by an image generator.
You must be 18 or older, or the age of majority where you live, to order.
Made to order
Every print is drawn and printed from your sound alone. Nothing is held in stock and nothing can be resold, so please check the proof, the words and the options before you pay. Your order goes to the print lab after payment, so a print can't be cancelled or returned once it's under way, except where the fault is ours or the law says otherwise. The shipping and returns page sets out what we do when something goes wrong.
If something arrives wrong
If your print arrives damaged, defective, or not what you ordered, write to us within 30 days of delivery with a photograph and we'll remake it or refund you. That is our own promise, and it sits on top of your statutory rights, which nothing here reduces.
Your sound, your rights
The sound you bring stays yours, and it stays with you: we never receive it. You give us its outline (2,000 peaks and its length), your words, your choices, a name, an address and an email. You grant us only what we need to draw, print and deliver your order.
Please bring only sounds you have the right to use. A recording of someone else's song, speech or performance may belong to them, and recording another person may need their consent where you live.
Your purchase licenses the print for personal use: hang it, give it, photograph it. It doesn't transfer copyright in our artwork, layouts or software, and it doesn't license commercial use, resale or merchandise. If you'd like a commercial arrangement, write to us and ask.
The Digital File
A Digital File is the print-ready JPEG of your sound's waveform, sent as a download link on the page after you pay and by email, instead of being printed. Nothing is shipped. Your purchase licenses the file for personal use: print it as often as you like for yourself, frame it, and give the prints you make as gifts. It doesn't license resale, commercial use or merchandise, or passing the file on for other people to print. If the file is faulty or isn't the print you set, write to us within 30 days and we'll fix it or refund you.
Fair use of the site
Please don't scrape the site, resell access to it, or use it to produce anything unlawful, including titles or captions that use someone else's trademark or impersonate a real person. We may decline or refund any order at our discretion.
The honest limits
Each print is computed from the sound your browser decoded. Even so: screens and paper differ; the waveform is the amplitude envelope, 2,000 peaks wide, not every sample; two different sounds can draw nearly the same shape; and a waveform can't identify a voice. A print is a picture of a measurement, not a scientific instrument or a record of who spoke, and it should not be relied on as evidence of anything.
The site and everything on it are provided as they are, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim arising out of an order or these terms will not exceed what you paid for the order it concerns, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Prices and payment
Prices are shown before you pay, and Stripe's checkout page shows the full total, including any shipping, before you confirm. Stripe charges your card; we never see or store your card details. Prodigi or Printful prints and ships each print, whichever gets it to you for less, and shipping is charged at what that lab charges to send it, with nothing added. Import duties, where they apply, are the recipient's responsibility.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and disputes will be heard there, except where consumer-protection law where you live gives you the right to bring proceedings in your own country. Before filing anything, please write to us so we can try to settle it directly.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top always says when. Orders are governed by the terms in force when you placed them.
